Day 6 Brings a Premature End

Weekend commitments mean that I have to stop here sadly.

I’m happy enough with where I got to. I absolutely could have done more to make the quests more interesting and develop the interplay between the map, factions and quests.

But it’s started to delve into it and all in all there’s enough food for thought that I think I’ll be able to work out where I want to go from here.

So, screenshots!

Map Screen

So the Map Screen has changed a bit, for a start the Status Bar we can see “Your Rep” as well as “Reputation”. There’s a lot of emoji’s up there, mostly because the names of the various Tribes was taking up too much space, so in many places I’ve squashed it down to two emoji, one for their generic adjective and the other for what kind of creature they are.

To the right there’s a big “Info Panel”, so when you highlight something, it will give you some details.

Map Screen - Showing You

So if we highlight your Tribe, shown as a Mage emoji ;)… We get a breakdown of stuff, the relations is the new thing to note here, it gives bunch of values on each line.

Let’s break this one down: So the first line is: “🥺🐍=🤡> <You=🤷”, which means the adorable snake-kin think you are clowns, while you’re broadly indifferent to them. The next line is: “You=☠> <😠🐉=🤷”, which means you hate the angry dragon-kin, who are broadly indifferent to you. Finally, “You=🤝> <😡🐻=🤷”, which means you’re friendly with the aggressive bear-kin, who are broadly indifferent to you.

I do wish I had a bit more time to work out relational dynamics here, there’s a bit more broadly indifferent than I’d like going on and it would be nice to have spent a bit more time here thinking up a more elegant approach =)…

Map Screen - Showing Friend

So let’s look at the aggressive bear-kin who you’d like to be friendlier to, we can see they have a fair more relationships, so they’re a reasonably diplomatic race.

Map Screen - Showing Enemy

Finally let’s take a peek at angry dragon-kin, before we move on from the Map Screen.

Peep Screen

Now looking at the Peep Screen, there’s not been as much that has changed here, I really would have liked time to add some more building variety. I was slowly moving in the direction of having buildings which your peeps could just visit themselves, but I suppose that’s something I can look at in Fruit Economy itself…

Let’s get ourselves a Fighter and a Mage in preparation to go on a Quest!

Quest Screen

Finally we check out the Quest Screen, as we can see we now have quests based on what’s going on in the world. It would have been nice to provide a bit more options to the player here, but once again we only started to scratch the surface of what was possible here. More to dig into in the future I think =)…

So let’s select “Attack angry dragon-kin” our hated enemies, who are largely indifferent to us, that’ll teach them to be so indifferent!

Quest Screen - Post Quest

Huh, looks like they were right to be indifferent. Our adventurers were destroyed!

Log Screen

Finally we can dig into the Log Screen as see in detail just how badly we did.

Well this has been quite an experience. I’ve not done a 7DRL before and I’ve got to say it’s been pretty fun.

I’d heartily recommend it to anyone who’s interested in giving it a shot!
